Item Environment and social issues related to migration: A case study on Katunayake Seeduwa Municipal Council(Department of Geography, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) De Silva, M.K.C.K; Amarasingha, A.GEnvironmental and social problems have been created from mass migration in the world. Accordingly, the main objective of this research is to study the environmental and social problems associated with migration. Also, the other objective of the study is to identify the migration patterns of migration and its impact on the environment and social status, identify the environmental and social background caused by the migrant laborer in the study area and to understand the relationship between population migration and environment and social problem. This research is important in identifying future development possibilities and proposals to overcome these problems. The Katunayake Seeduwa Urban Council jurisdiction of the Katana Divisional secretariat of the Gampaha District, which shows the highest migration pattern in Sri Lanka for the study. Data analysis was carried out quantitatively and qualitatively using secondary data such as mapping and analysis of primary data such as the use of structured questionnaires, interviews, and data obtained from organizations involved in the migration. The migration pattern of Sri Lanka which began with the conquest of Sri Lanka has since followed the migration of south Indian migration, the Dutch, the English, the invasions of the 26th, 17th and 18th centuries. As such these migration patterns have affected the environment and social patterns in a variety of ways. Currently, the government has put in place various regulations to overcome this situation. However, there are many environmental and social problems associated with mass migration.
