Item Effect of Administration, Environment and Academic Qualifications on Motivation of the Sri Lankan Primary School Teacher’s Motivation(Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Amarathunga, P.A.B.H.; Pathiratne, S.Education is the process through which an individual is developed into an individuality and a person into a personality. Each person is different form the other and every individual has same unique potential in some field or other. Education refers to the change in behavior, attitude and culture brought about in the individual as a result of having undergone education during a particular period. In Child’s inculcation primary stage implements of edifying acquisition of the schools of learning cultivation of habits of body and postures of mind compulsory for efficient acquisition of erudition formation of sound judgment and adroit performance of tasks. Edifier plays the most paramount role in primary inculcation. Objectives of the study is to find the effect of administration, location and academic qualifications on Sri Lankan Primary School teacher’s motivation. The sample for the investigation consisted of 160 teachers. The stratified random sampling was applied. The male and female teachers are 77 and 83, the sample consists of 77 males and 83 female teaches from Government (87) and Private (73) schools. Three hypothesizes was formulated for the study and the teacher’s motivation was tested for significance by employing ‘t’ – test. The results denoted that the administration has paramount effect on the motivation of teachers. Additionally, location of school has significant influence on the teacher’s motivation and there is paramount influence of academic qualifications on the teacher’s motivation. In Conclusion researchers can say that Administration highly influenced the teacher’s motivation. Government teachers have positive teacher’s motivation scores than Private sector teachers. The administrators should provide better employment facilities for the Private school teachers. Location of school also highly influenced the teacher’s motivation. Urban school teachers have positive teacher’s motivation scores than the rural school teachers. Therefore the administrators should provide physical facilities for the rural school teachers. Academic qualifications also highly influenced the teacher’s motivation. Undergraduate teachers have positive teacher’s motivation scores than the Post - graduate edifiers. This indicates that the administrators should provide more facilities for the undergraduate teachers.Item Effect of Gender in ICT Literacy: A Case Study of Sri Lankan Trainee Teachers(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Amarathunga, P.A.B.H.; Pathiratne, S.; Weerasinghe, D.The exordium of information and communication technology (ICT) into the scholastic sector engendered incipient gregarious typecasts and gender divergences. Meanwhile, gender inequalities now emerged in incipient areas of ICT use (Rainer et al., 2003). In Sri Lankan Context this study is the first one.This study aims to get an insight into gender differences of aspiring edifiers. Gender differences in self-reported ICT experience and ICT literacy among trainee edifiers are investigated. Dynamic model of ICT literacy is employed. Three main components of aspiring teacher’s ICT literacy are covered: (1) present general quandary-solving and technical ICT capabilities; (2) circumstantial and longitudinal sustainability; and (3) transferability of ICT capabilities into future professional domain. The present study found out the efficacy of educational blog in erudition of Computer Programming among Undergraduates. The study was conducted to develop an educational blog for the methods of teaching Computer Programming and experimentation the same with a set of students studying for the B.Tech. In Multimedia and finding out its efficacy over the orthodox technique of instruction. Two equivalent group experimental-designs are engaged for this research. Researcher has chosen 46 B. Tech in multimedia, students for the study. From the Marks attained of pre-test, 23 students were selected as control group and 23 students were selected as experimental group. According to the findings of t-test the experimental cluster students were better than the control cluster students in their gain scores. Finally, the Researcher concludes that; (a) There was substantial variance between control and experimental group students in their gain scores. That is the experimental cluster students are ameliorated than control cluster students in their gain scores. (b)There was consequential distinction between control and experimental group students in their gain scores for procurement of the cognizance, understanding, and application objectives.Item Entrepreneurship Awareness amongst the University Academics in Kurunegala District, Sri Lanka.(In: Proceedings of the International Postgraduate Research Conference 2017 (IPRC – 2017), Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Amarathunga, P.A.B.H.; Pathirathna, S.An Entrepreneur is a person who takes the jeopardy of starting his own business or enterprise or investing in other startups for the purport of achieving their goal with the desire and the capability to innovate and diversify. It is verbalized that entrepreneurship is the main reason for the economic development a country. The objective of this study was to quantify the knowledge and awareness about the entrepreneurship amongst the University Academics in Kurunegala District, Sri Lanka, predicated on the concept of engendering vigilance about it. The survey method was used in this research to gather the data from the Academics. The questionnaire comprised of five segments as each section focuses on the proportions of the entrepreneurship awareness. These questions are based on the knowledge and the awareness and also the abilities of the entrepreneurship. Sample sizes of 100 academics were investigated. The respondent population consisted of 60 males and 40 females. The results denoted that 90% of the male academics and 85% female academics are well aware of Entrepreneurship. There was no significant relationship between gender Entrepreneurship Awareness and Most of the academics are stated that they came to know about this entrepreneurship from the conferences conducted by educational institutions. Seventy-seven academics revealed that they knew a lot about the benefits of the entrepreneurship. Fifty-two are very interested to start the new business, whereas 36 academics who are well educated about the entrepreneurship are not interested in beginning new firm. Males are well aware of the entrepreneurship benefits and they are ready to take the risks compared to the women in Kurunegala District. This research has given the opportunity to ken about the vigilance and cognizance about the entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurial erudition is must for the academics so that they can inspirit the entrepreneurship among the students and it may enable to edify them or victual them with cognizance about entrepreneurship.Item A Framework for the implementation of Electronic Customer Relationship Management Information System (e-CRM) in Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in Sri Lanka(Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, University of Kelaniya, Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2016) Pathiratne, S.; Amarathunga, P.A.B.H.iterature has denoted that Electronic Customer Relationship Management (e-CRM) can play a key role in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as an implement to efficaciously engender and maintain relationships with company’s clienteles. E-CRM is being espoused by corporations for the reason that it increments customer adhesion and customer retaining by amending customer gratification. This study proposes a framework for the implementation of Electronic Customer Relationship Management (e-CRM) information systems in Sri Lanka. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods were utilized. Primary data were accumulated from Small and Medium Enterprises located in 20 districts of Sri Lanka. A self-administered questionnaire was the main data amassment implement. Descriptive statistics were habituated to analyze data and refine the requisites for implementation of e-CRM information systems. Through the use of technology interest may be developed in the students who are slow learners.Item The ICT competencies of new accounting students of different admission criteria: the case of Sri Lankan private university(Department of Accountancy, University of Kelaniya, 2015) Amarathunga, P.A.B.H.; Pathiratne, S.The current trend in business and accounting settings requires an accountant who is an ICT literate. International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) published the International Inculcation Guidelines that include ICT erudition and competency requisites for professional accountants. These guidelines are intended to avail its member bodies in preparing professional accountants to work within the ICT environment. Amid others, the strategies highlight the ICT erudition and competency requisites for the accountants vis-a-vis the ICT users. This study aims to investigate the level of information and communication technology (ICT) competency possesses by new accounting students at the Private University in Sri Lanka according to their Admission Criteria. The study examines five software applications deemed critical for an accountant, namely, word processing; spreadsheet; database; PowerPoint presentation; and Internet and email. A survey was conducted on 182 first year accounting students. Overall, students from the Foundation Diploma Admission Criteria are found to possess the ICT competency better than those from other Admission Criteria. The competency of students from London AL and GCE A/L Admission Criteria in spreadsheet is found to be below average. All students regardless of their Admission Criteria were found to be less competent in Database Management System (DBMS).Item Impact of Computer-Predicated Educational Achievement Test on Test Performance and Test Takers’ Motivation(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2015) Amarathunga, P.A.B.H.; Pathiratne, S.There has been an incrementing interest in recent years in developing and utilizing computer-predicated tests in edifying assessment. As the main aim of the study is to ken the impact of technology on the contentment of customers, Survey and questionnaire were used with two components. Convenient sampling technique was employed in the cull of banks located in and around Kuliyapitiaya town of North Western Province of Sri Lanka and Personal interview method was adopted to gather the primary data. The present study finds that majority of customers are satisfied with the services they are receiving in the banks. There are some customers who are not satisfied with the services i.e.,procedure to apply for loan, interest on the loans, debit and credit cards, mobile banking and customer care. It is therefore suggested that this disstisfctioin ie removed. It is postulated that the procedures cognate to taking the imprest is causing dissatisfaction to some of the customers, hence bank ascendant entities are required to look into this factor and some of the intricate procedures which involved in the sanctioning of loan may be relaxed to certain extent. A total of 46 undergraduates who were in the second year of their respective courses were selected for this research using random sampling technique. The findings designated that undergraduates’ views were positive towards the technical aspects of e-learning predicated on technology and implements utilized in the e-learning environment, pedagogical aspects of collaborative learning approach involved, and their gregarious roles in the e-learning environment. Withal to determine the Utilization of ICT Tools between English and Singhalese Medium Lecturers and Compare the Utilization based on subject stream (Arts and Science). A Sample consists of 100 Lecturers from Four Sinhala Medium and 200 Lecturers from English Medium National Colleges of Education in Western and North Western provinces of Sri Lanka. Stratified random sampling technique was followed for culling the National Colleges of Education. There are a number of college edifiers in each college. Only Arts and Science edifiers were culled following purposive sampling technique. Findings reveal that the Lecturers of National Colleges of Education in Sri Lanka are more propitious to Utilize ICT Teaching – Learning tools and male Lecturers are more propitious than Female Lecturers. Withal it was found that, there is no paramount distinction between the mean scores of Sinhala Medium and English Medium College Lecturers towards Utilization of Teaching – Learning tools and there is consequential distinction between the mean scores of Arts and Science stream among Lecturers towards Utilization of ICT Tools in Education. In Conclusion this study contributes an incipient teaching learning in the form of assessing the caliber of cognizance and Utilization of ICT Teaching – Learning Tools because the desideratum of the day is to make edifiers realize their capabilities and amend upon capabilities to avail solve the quandaries of their life through Utilization of ICT tools. This study will be of immense use for the scholastic administrators, which will throw light upon the posture of edifiers of Higher Inculcation towards Utilization of ICT Implements.Item Study of Decision-Making Skills of Government and Private School Principals in Gampha District, Sri Lanka.(In: Proceedings of the International Postgraduate Research Conference 2017 (IPRC – 2017), Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Pathirathna, S.; Amarathunga, P.A.B.H.Decision making is selecting the appropriate option from different options. For any human being, decision making is very necessary as this is the main criteria for judging the mental ability of anyone. The principal is the backbone of any school administration. Most of the decisions are given by principal for the development of the school. In the given study, investigators compare the decision-making skills of government and private schools as well as male and female school principals. Objectives of the study are to compare the decisionmaking skills of government and private school principals in Gampaha district on the basis of gender and to compare the decision-making skills of government and private secondary school principals. The sample of the study consisted of 80 participants. The sample consists of 40 government and 40 private school principals. The sample was taken using purposive sampling. For the assessment of decision-making in school principals Decision-Making Style Scale was validated and used. Statistical techniques like Mean, Standard Deviation and t-test was used. Results denote that gender has not affected the decision-making skills of government and private school principals. Also, it is evident that significant difference exists between decisions making skills (i.e. routine, compromise, heuristic) of government school principals and private school principals. All the mean score for the government school principals are higher than the mean score of private school principals. This study despite that government school principal‘s decision making is more accurate than private school principals. On the other hand, there is no significant difference between decision-making skills on the basis of gender. The reason behind the first result may be Government school‘s principals are more independent than private school principals because government principles have to implement the policy. Private school principals have to follow the instruction from the management.Item Study of Mobile Learning Activities amongst Undergraduates(Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2015) Amarathunga, P.A.B.H.; Pathiratne, S.The accommodation of mobile contrivances gives users anytime-anywhere access to information and applications. Sitting on the train, waiting at the playground are occasions that now provide opportunities to access to information or tasks and learn. The hypotheses defined was, there is no significant difference in the mean scores of mobile learning activities among the postgraduate students with respect to their gender, course of study, year of studying, residence of home and locality of the institution. and the mean scores of their Father‘s educational qualification Finally, the results reveal that; (a) There is no significant difference in mobile learning activities among the undergraduates with respect to their course in terms (b) There is no significant difference in mobile learning activities among the undergraduates with respect to their Father‘s Educational Qualifications. Etc., This study show that the emergence of incipient technological environment may revolutionize the edification cognition process. The role of the lecturer will be different from the traditional classroom edifying. The lecturer could be a manager, monitor, role model, counselor, facilitator and a gregarious worker. It affects their phrenic process that leads to breakdown in their cognition process. The present study. first of its kind in the country, was conducted to ascertain the Relationship between emotional Intelligence and academic anxiety amongst Sri Lankan Undergraduates. Descriptive survey method is used to ascertain the relationship between emotional Intelligence and academic anxiety In the present study, 200 final year Undergraduates (100 Males & 100 Females) from the western province of Sri Lanka were being taken through random Sampling Method. Descriptive survey method was used to find out the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Academic Anxiety. Emotional Intelligence Inventory (Mangal, S.K. & Mangal, S.) and Academic Anxiety Scale for Children (Singh, A.K. & Gupta A.S.) were utilized as data collection tools of the present research. Mean, Standard Deviation, T-test and product moment correlation were utilized as statistical techniques. Results denote that there is no significant correlation between Emotional intelligence and Academic Anxiety of the Undergraduates as whole and also no significant difference exists between Emotional intelligence of male and female undergraduates. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools consider as an enhancement and advancement if not, a panacea to many challenges faced in everyday activities. In the context of Regime of Sri Lanka, the Department of Education has boarded on a sequence of programmes to ascertain that more schools are equipped with ICT. School teachers play a pivotal role in ascertaining technology use in the English Language Classroom. Hence, there is a desideratum to investigate School Teachers’ Understanding levels and Assertiveness towards multimedia technology in edifying English Grammar. Objectives of the study are to ascertain the subsisting relationship between the Understanding and Assertiveness of English School Edifiers in utilizing Multimedia technology.
