There are 103 perennial rivers in Sri Lanka, most of which drain from the central highlands into the western, southern and eastern coasts. In addition a multitude of reservoirs on the island support rich aquatic biodiversity (Fernando and Weerawardhena, 2002). The extant reservoirs in Sri Lanka consist of ancient reservoirs that have been restored and rehabilitated, and new reservoirs constructed primarily for irrigation and/or generation of hydroelectricity.Present Status and Future Strategies for the Management of Reservoir Fisheries in Sri LankaarticleFisheries Biology and Aquaculture
