Abstract: This study focuses on the image of women in ‘Thani Thatuwen Piyambanna’ by Handagama (2003), Anjalika by Channa Perera (2005) and One Shot (2005) by Ranjan Ramanayake. The research question was whether the image of women affects the interest of the audience. The hypothesis is that the image of women affects the interest of the audience. The research made use of the Library, interviews, content analysis, questionnaires and thus proved the hypothesis. It was revealed that gaining the interest of the audience is important and producers use different techniques to achieve that. Among them, creating image of women is the most important thing. It was revealed that creative type of films are different from the popular variety, and the audience also respond differently. However, the research revealed that, by motivational techniques, interest of the audience can be gained for any film. In presenting these, the study was divided into six chapters . the first chapter introduces the study, the second talks of the image of women, third- cinema, the fourth is a study of selected films, fifth data analysis and sixth -conclusion. The conclusion was that woman image has a great impact on increasing the interest of audience. However, it is not the only factor.
