Abstract
The global book publishing industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation as it transitions from traditional print formats to mobile reading applications. This study examines the advantages and challenges of this shift, focusing on how technological innovation, changing reader preferences, and digital platforms are reshaping publishing practices. Key drivers of this transformation include the rapid growth of smartphone usage, the demand for accessibility, and the emergence of interactive and user-friendly reading experiences. Using a literature-based research methodology, the study systematically analyzes ten recent academic publications as secondary data sources. The analysis is framed by Media Convergence Theory and Diffusion of Innovation Theory, which offer conceptual foundations for understanding the digital evolution of the publishing industry. Findings reveal that mobile reading applications provide significant opportunities to expand readership, reduce production costs, and foster global access to literary content. However, they also challenge traditional publishing models, compelling publishers to redefine strategies of content creation, distribution, and reader engagement. Overall, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the digital transformation within the publishing industry and its broader implications for the future of literary culture, media consumption, and the sustainability of publishing in the mobile era.
