SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW ON THE IMPACT OF KEY DETERMINANTS ON SUPPLIER PERFORMANCE IN SRI LANKAN APPAREL INDUSTRY

Abstract

This research aims to examine the determinants that impact on supplier performance in the Sri Lankan apparel industry. These key performance indicators and metrics such as cost of the product, quality of the product, delivery/lead time, flexibility and communication are the pillars behind supplier performance. It begins by pinpointing the significance of supplier performance in the apparel industry and then examines the existing research on three key areas. Which is supplier performance in the supply chain, determinants of supplier performance, and supplier performance in the apparel industry in Sri Lanka. After that, addressing the gap in knowledge of the study by examining existing information and the research goals. Quantitative methodology is applicable for this study as the methodological framework ensures both rigor and clarity in addressing the research objectives, which include examining the significance of communication gaps and other determinants in influencing supplier performance. The study’s methodology follows a positivist perspective, incorporating a deductive structure, and employs a cross-sectional survey to examine connections between cost, quality, delivery time, flexibility, and communication, with a focus on supplier performance and company size. The population for this study consists of 76 apparel manufacturers that are mentioned in the Journal and Directory of the Sri Lankan Apparel Exports Association. The structured questionnaire used for data collection is designed to measure each of the study’s variables across multiple dimensions. The study compromised 46 peer-reviewed journal articles in English published from the 1998-2023 period and the Systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) model was performed. The study’s conclusions add to the body of knowledge on emphasizing the significance of this research, offering substantial proof about the factors that impact supplier performance.
