Kandyan dance, one of Sri Lanka's most revered traditional art forms, embodies the island's rich cultural heritage. In the contemporary context, it serves not only as a mode of cultural expression but also contributes significantly to economic development and acts as a vital tool for cultural diplomacy. The central problem of this research explores how Kandyan dance can effectively contribute to Sri Lanka's economic growth and diplomatic efforts. Consequently, the study examines the multifaceted economic contributions of the dance form and its role in enhancing the country's soft power. The primary objective is to highlight the economic benefits derived from tourism and cultural industries, as well as the impact of dance in promoting Sri Lankan culture internationally. This study employs a qualitative research design utilizing both primary and secondary data sources. Primary data is gathered through interviews with dancers, cultural experts, and tourism professionals, alongside an analysis of media coverage regarding international performances. Secondary data is curated from academic literature, government reports, and cultural archives. The findings reveal that Kandyan dance significantly boosts the economy by attracting visitors to cultural festivals and performances, thereby supporting local businesses and artisans. Furthermore, the global appeal of Kandyan dance, showcased through international tours and cultural exchange programs, enhances Sri Lanka's cultural diplomacy. The commercialization of the dance through collaborations with contemporary art forms and media has further expanded its economic impact and audience accessibility. The study emphasizes the potential of Kandyan dance to function not merely as a preserved tradition, but as a dynamic cultural asset that fosters economic growth and strengthens international relations.
