Abstract

The report is based on the research conducted to find out the integration of competencies and content standards of O/L English curriculum, in Sri Lanka. The study brings an overview of the present status of the prevailing O/L English curriculum and the new educational methodology called competency based English education introduced by the new educational reforms, 2007. The main objective of this study was to examine the integration of competencies and content standards of O/L English curriculum in the process of learning the English language. The National Institute of Education in 2007 introduced a competency-based curriculum at junior secondary education level. The researcher’s intention was to examine the competencies and competency levels in that curriculum and to explore how well those competencies and competency levels integrated with the content standards of the relevant subject. The researcher has used the method of analyzing the text and documents and has collected the information through those rich sources of information. The researcher has used only secondary data in the study. And also the researcher has followed descriptive and exploratory methods for this deductive research.
