Mycotic aneurysms of the aorta are rare, and carry a poor prognosis unless detected and treated promptly. Aneurysms caused by Aspergillus species usually occur due to invasive pulmonary aspergillosis, septic embolisation or direct extension from the lung, mainly in immuno-compromised individuals.
