Item Comparative anti -plaque effect of herbal dental formula(International Journal of Current Advanced Research, 2020) Peiris, K.P.P.; Rupasinghe, R.A.A.N.Ayurveda and Sri Lankan traditional medical system devotes a significant importance to oral health problems on its preventive aspect rather than curative. This herbal formulation is specified as a dentifrice in Thalpathe Piliyam. But it was not scientifically evaluated. Therefore, this study was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of reducing plaque accumulation on teeth, maintenance of oral hygiene and compare the efficacy of powder with the novel toothpaste. Forty patients were selected with written consent from Dental OPD. They were randomly divided in to two groups; group A and B (20 patients in each) irrespective of their sex, religion, habitat etc. Group A was advised to brush twice a day for 01 month by using the toothpaste and Group B from same formula as in powder form. Oral Hygiene Index (OHI -S), Calculus Index (CI - S), Debris Index (DI —S) and Plaque Index (P Il) were used as objective criteria. According to the statistical analysis, it can be concluded that clinical effectiveness of toothpaste is more significant than tooth powder. The proposed herbal formulation is specied as a dentifrice in Talapathe Piliyam. But it has not been scientically evaluated. Therefore, this study was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of reducing plaque accumulation on teeth, maintenance of oral hygiene and compare the efcacy of powder with the novel toothpaste. The formation in different forms (paste and powder) was prepared at the laboratory of Sri Lanka Ayurvedic Drug Cooperation, Navinna, Sri Lanka. Thirty patients were selected with written consent from Shalakya OPD by using specic proforma. They were randomly divided into two groups; group A and B (15 patients in each) irrespective of their sex, age, habitat etc. Group A was advised to brush twice a day for two weeks by using the toothpaste and group B from the same formation as powder. Oral Hygiene Index (OHI) and Plaque Index (PI) were used as an objective criteria. The OHI of group A varied as Poor (3.1-6.0) 66.67% , Fair (1.3-3.0) 33.33% and Good (0.0-1.2) 0% prior to the trial and showed as Poor 0%, Fair 86.6% and Good 13.33% after the trail period. In group B; Poor 20% , Fair 80% and Good 0% prior to the trial and showed as Poor 0% , Fair 93.37%, good 6.67% after the trial. The PI of group A varied as Poor (2.0-3.0) 66.67%, Fair (1.0-1.9) 33.33%, Good (0.1-0.9) 0% and Excellent (0) 0% prior to the trial and showed as Poor 0%, Fair 80% , Good 20% and Excellent 0% after the trial period. In group B; Poor 46.67%, Fair 53.33%, Good 0% and Excellent 0% prior to the trial and showed as Poor 0%, Fair 80%, Good 20% and Excellent 0% after the trial. Thus, it can be concluded this toothpaste is more effective in comparison to the tooth powder. However, a long term study would conrm the result of the study.Item Efficacy of Traditional Formula as a Pratisarana in the Management of Danthaveshta(2nd International Research Conference & Exhibition on Siddha Medicine -2020, Organized by Unit of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna, Kaithady, Sri Lanka, 2020) Rupasinghe, R.A.A.N.; Samaranayake, G.V.P.Danthaveshta is one of the main periodontal disease which mentioned in Ayurveda medical system. It is simulated with the "Suppurative gingivitis". According to recent statistics, 10-15% of world adult population was suffering from this condition. Hence, there is a need to evaluate the role of —theother alternative techniques for the management of this disease so as to minimize recurrence, make it cost effective and safety The present study aimed at evaluating the effect Of traditional herbal' formulation in the management Of Danthaveshta, which described in Thalpatepiliyam. In the clinical study 30 patients were selected in age between 16-60 years irrespective Of their Sex, religion, Occupation and habitat etc. They were divided equally in two groups by using simple random sampling method. Group A was treated with traditional formula with Prathyakshadhathripanthaya and Kaishoraguli , also group B was treated with Prathyakshadhathripanthaya and Kaishoraguli . No one has complained about any experience about allergy, infections or discomfort at any time that they have encountered during the follow-up period. Group A was showed significant results in the improvements Of Rakthasrava. Puyasrava. danthashopa, Krishnatha, Mukhadurgandha and Shoola. (p<0.05) Group B showed significant results only Rakthasravaandshopa. But other symptoms were not Significantly reduced (p>0.05). These results were proved that the traditional herbal formula has worked well on reducing Symptoms Of danthaveshta as a pratisarana.
