Vachadi ghrita in form of pratimarsha nasya was administered along with oral Medhyarasayana ghrita. Vachadi ghrita nasya contains vacha, kustha, pippali which also have rasayana property. On Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, patients had anxiety, tension, depression, difficulty in concentration & memory and fear. On Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, these patients had anxiety, depression, hypochondriasis and hopelessness. On Brief Psychiatry Rating Scale, psychological factors affected include anxiety, depression, somatic concern and tension etc. Medhyarasayana ghrita along with vachadi ghrita improved clinical features in statistically highly significant (p<0.001) manner. The data reflects that disturbed mental health plays an important role in etiopathogenesis of senile dementia.Item Evaluation of Diet and Life style in etiopathogenesis of sensile dementia: A survey study(AYU, an International Quarterly Journal of Research in Ayurveda, 2011) Chaudhuri, K.; Samarakoon, S.M.S.; Chandola, H.M.; Kumar, R.; Ravishankar, B.Item Impact of overcrowding on paediatric health problems in Chandigarh, India(Sri Lanka Medical Association, 2008) Mettananda, D.S.G.; Mettananda, K.C.D.; Thakur, J.S.; Kumar, R.OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between overcrowding and acute respiratory infections (ART) and diarrhoea in children. DESIGN, SETTING AND METHODS: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted at the Urban Health Training Centre, Indira Colony, and Chandigarh, India in December 2004. All children under the age of 2 years attending the immunization clinic were recruited into the study. An interviewer schedule was used to collect data. Overcrowding, ARI and diarrhoea were defined using standard WHO definitions. RESULTS: Sixty children were recruited into the study. Mean age was 5.95 months. Thirty-three (55%) were boys. Forty-eight (80%) children belonged to the lowest social class. Thirty-five (58.3%) houses had only a single room and 39 (65%) households were overcrowded. Twenty-one (35%) children were exposed to passive smoking. Incidences of ARI and diarrhea during the past one month were 61.7% and 35% respectively. Children from overcrowded houses had significantly higher incidence of ARI compared to children from non-overcrowded houses (x2=4.5, p<0.05) but there was no such relationship with the incidence of diarrhoea (x2==1.3, p>0.05). There was no significant association between the incidence of ARI and passive smoking (x2= 1.239, p>0.05). CONCLUSION: Sixty-five percent of households in Indira Colony, Chandigarh are overcrowded. The study identified a significant association between overcrowding and the incidence of ARI but not with the incidence of diarrhoea.Item Perspectives from China, India and Sri Lanka on the drivers and potential solutions to overuse and overdiagnosis(BMJ Publishing Group Ltd, 2023) Pathirana, T.; Wang, Y.; Martiny, F.; Copp, T.; Kumar, R.; Mendis, K.; Tang, J.No abstract availableItem The Role of Religion in Value Education: The Case of India(International Conference on the Humanities (ICH 2018/2019), Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Kumar, R.According to the 2011 census of the government, approximately 79 percent of India`s population is Hindus, 14 percent is Muslims, and 4 percent adheres to Christianity and other religions. Other religions include the Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism and others; therefore it makes it very difficult for those in position of power in India to ignore this reality. The scriptures and teachings of Hindu religion is intended to lead the students to develop a critical mind and to imbibe the basic Hindu religious tenets, hence there is a need to transmit acceptable moral standards and inculcate spiritual values in interpersonal and human relations in the society. In order to sustain a sound human society, the survival of value education becomes imperative because of the nostalgia of the past, disappointment of the present and hope for the future generation. This paper tries to examine the role of religious bodies in the state of India in providing religious education in the current democratic dispensation. The government of the day feels that in delivering value education professionalism should be kept in mind. This means that the religious educators do not present their teachings with the view of converting the pupils towards their faith but to present every religion in an objective way for the pupils to make their own decisions. This is to ensure religious tolerance in the light of the religious pluralism existing in the country today. It is for this reason that the Indian education authorities like central Board of secondary Education, University Grants Commissions, AICTE etc. have to approve the content of the syllabus of education. It is worth mentioning that religious bodies in India wield considerable power and can influence state governments in the areas of law and politics. This paper adopts a qualitative approach and with the help of secondary data extensively discusses the concept and objectives of value education and their role in inculcating values, the paper also touches on the important aspect of relationship between religious instruction and values education. The paper concludes by suggesting ways forward for a better society
