Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion (BRVO) is one of the major causes of sudden painless loss of vision after diabetic retinopathy. Two third of patients with ischemic BRVO are prone to blindness. There has been no treatment identied so far to reverse open the blocked vessels to maintain perfusion and the available treatment modality (laser photocoagulation) is not effective in the absence of macular perfusion. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efcacy of selected Ayurveda modalities in the management of BRVO and to study the pathogenesis of BRVO. A 68 year-old male patient with unilateral BRVO reported to the Shalakya clinic, having a visual acuity 3/60 in right eye and 6/24 in left eye with distorted vision and visual eld defect. His near vision was CF in right eye and N8 in left eye. The patient did not have any other complications such as diabetic, hypertension or any other systemic disease. He was administrated with selected Ayurveda modalities for three (03) months continuously. Treatment protocol consisted of local and systemic therapies. After 14 days of therapy, there was marked improvement of visual acuity. At the end of follow-up period complete remission of symptoms was observed. Thus it is concluded that the treatment protocol which was used to treat the patient was effective in the management of BRVO.

(International Journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, 2019) Abegunasekara, N.S.; Bandara, A.M.A.G.K.S.
In most of the Ayurvedic remedies, Diospyros malabarica is used to obtain Rakthasthambana (coagulation) effect. The effect of leaves and stem bark extract of Diospyros malabarica on human blood coagulation was investigated using Lee and White method at Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute in Sri Lanka. A total of 20 healthy individuals representing both sex were included in the study. For the test group, three tubes containing a volume of 0.5mL of stem bark extract were allocated, and the sap was replaced with normal saline for the tubes of the control group. A volume of 1mL of drawn blood was quickly added for every six tubes in situ, and all were incubated in a water bath at 37'C. Every tube of two groups was observed carefully for a clot to measure the average clotting time of each group separately. Above procedure was repeated to all the fresh juice samples of stem bark and the leaves of Diospyros malabarica. The statistically significant reduction of average clotting time has proved that the stem bark of Diospyros malabarica and leaves of Diospyros malabarica have a highly' significant effect on clotting cascade.

Astrology and medicine are intimately linked in as much as the science of healing forms an important part of remedial astrology. Principles and training of medical astrology is an intricatesubject that needs a great compact of knowledge and in-depth study. The main utility of medical astrology is to cosmic effects under different planetary conditions at the time of a disease are likely to be beneficial or detrimental to the patient and implement the diagnostic plan accordingly. This study was designed to review the astrological concepts that have been used to establish a correlation between the planets and diseases in terms of the signs of the zodiac that have shown a strong relationship with diseases and different parts of the human body. The review was based on notable manuscripts and other texts that contain descriptions of this relationship. The study revealed that the signs form the part of the body of the Kälpuruya starting from Aries and starting from the Ascendant. Thus an astrologer can foresee the possibility of a person liable to suffer before the onset of the disease. From the calculation of the period and sub-periods of the planets, he can determine the time of the onset of the disease and its duration on the basis of one's horoscope. Horoscope is a very potential instrument that can be used effectively in diagnostic and treatment plans. However, apart fromthe indications of the diseases that may be present in a horoscope, the astrologer must seriously analyze the transiting influences and the circumstances of the case on hand for accurate diagnosis. Thus it can be concluded that medical astrology, if used with a sense of proper understanding, can aid medical diagnosis.

Yoga is a universal practice which strengthens body physically as well as mentally. There is recent research evidence to suggest that regular practice of yoga postures strengthens the immune system and reduce chronic inflammation. ln fact, researchers have found an overall pattern that yoga duces pro-inflammatory markers, with the strongest evidence for the reduction of a cytokine called IL-Ibeta. This study was primarily designed to study the effect of Yogasana on enhancing immunity of the individual. An extensive literature review was conducted based onHathayogapradipikå journal papers and other related e-papers on yoga. All the Yogasanas mentioned in Hathayogapradipikåwere critically analyzed to determine a relationship between the regular practice of yoga posturesand the degree of immunity. The study revealed that the most effective yoga to activate the regular functions of the immune system is combination of Yogasanas, Pranayama and meditation. Further, practice of Yogasana increasesthe amount of antibodies such as leukocyte, eosinophils and monocytes and stimulate inflammatory responses. Yogasanas are also extremely beneficial to manage Stress which is often associated with an increased occurrence of autonomic and immune system pathology. On the basis of the review, it can be concluded that Yogasanas are effective in improving a variety of immune system-related outcome measures. However, these effects warrant further methodologically rigorous studies to determine the clinical implications of the findings for inflammatory outcomes

    (1st International and 9th National Conference – Shalakya Manthana 2015, 2015) Abegunasekara, N.S.
Background: The history of traditional medicine in Sri Lanka runs beyond the era of great king Rawana. It has eveloped its own way independently according to the needs of the human being. It is gifted from generation to —neration as a great heritage which helps to maintain the health of the Sri Lankan nation. Sri Lanka has been i•herited to traditional eye physicians who have great miracle powered remedies and treatment procedures. One Of treatment methods from them is binding traditional remedies on great toe on feet for refractive errors (Timira). An eye that has refractive error when viewing distant objects is said to have ametropia or be ametropic. This eye, when using accommodation, cannot focus parallel rays of light (light from distant objects) on the retina. The word •ametropia" can be used interchangeably with "refractive error" or "image formation defects." Types of ametropia include myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Timira is a condition in Ayurveda shalakyatantra that can be comparing W'ith the refractive errors. It is a disease that can be attributed to wide range of clinical conditions starting from mild •ng ofvision and having potential risk Of permanent vision loss. Purpose: To make an outlook on the relationship between the management of refractive errors (Timira) and binding raditional Sri Lankan remedies on great toe on feet Methods: Primary data was collected using traditional Sri Lankan treatises and secondary data was collected from some traditional eye physicians. Findings: All the traditional eye physicians who have been interviewed, was revealed the same practicing method. The patient was given the prepared traditional remedy and he was advised to bind it once a day. Repeating this method continuously for about three months the patient could be able to gain the normal visual acuity . The ingredients Of the remedy was a secret of the tradition and it can be powder form or paste form. Considering primary data, this relationship can be explained from three aspects. They are according to the acupuncture, according to the traditional •nila"shastra and according to the shad chakras. Conclusion: The spleen channel originates its superficial course on the medial side of the big toe and the pertaining organ of spleen. Spleen channel is related with manipoora chakra from shad-chakras. Thejo bhootha is related with Manipoora Chakra and vitiation of the Samana Vata and Pachaka Pitta which belongs to Manipoora Chakra caused eye diseases. So considering eye diseases, binding traditional medicine on the great toe has significant potency of relieving of them. The medicinal qualities of that remedies absorbed by the great toe and then it stimulates the manipoora chakra. The stimulation of manipoora chakra effects on the eye and reduce the eye diseases like refractive errors. So it can be concluded as binding traditional Sri Lankan remedies on great toe on feet is an effective method Of treating eye disease.
